In June I decided to visit elderly friends as the husband was just home from hospital after having major heart surgery.
I walked into a crisis situation as the husband was pale cold and clammy but he informed me he had dialled 999 for his wife who also has a heart condition. I'm a retired nurse but I have to admit I was thinking where do I start when through the door came
3 Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service .Courtney, Tam & Giles. I gave them the couples medical history and they got to work. Courtney & Tam dealt with the wife while Giles tended the husband who was in a different part of the house. All three were efficient and worked well as a team they carried out all observations in a calming and reassuring manner.
When they were satisfied that the wife and husband were settled. Tam & Giles sorted out a wee problem which I know was not there remit but it went along way in alleviating the husband’s anxiety. Courtney realised that my friends maybe needed some more help at home so she contacted the couples family and made them aware of the situation, she also contacted their GP to arrange a home visit .
I felt I had to highlight the professionalism of these 3 Paramedics. As I already mentioned I was a nurse and hate the sometimes unfair criticism the NHS comes under. The SAS should be proud of this team. They Were Simply The Best.
"The SAS should be proud of this team."
