"Ultrasound lack of empathy"

About: University Hospital Of Hartlepool / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I went for ultrasound at Hartlepool hospital in the pregnancy ultrasound department but I'm not pregnant, was getting checked for fibroids.

I was nervous as I find internal ultrasound painful. I asked if my husband could come in.  The sonographer refused.  Even though partners were allowed in other rooms.  They were really rude and gave no explanation. When I went in they said they were training a junior sonographer and they were going to do ultrasound.  No permission was asked if I was okay with this.  I said multiple times it was very uncomfortable and painful. They just kept saying it won't take long but it took ages.

The hospital failed me multiple times during my recent care.

Please allow partners in to reassure patients and please ask if patient is okay to have trainee to perform procedure and give option to refuse and have experienced sonographer if preferred.  They knew I was extremely anxious, I was shaking.  Please learn from this and be kinder.
