"Cancer care/Palliative Care"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Cancer care and Oncology Galloway Community Hospital / Oncology/Cancer care General practices in Dumfries and Galloway

(as a relative),

Family member with advancing cancer, who's care is palliative, is juggling this nightmare situation of phoning GPs, phoning Dumfries for help to be sent ambulances for Dr A&E Stranraer,  to refuse any type of intervention,  other than phone your GP in morning or phone nhs24 if you get worse (worse than screaming, crying, pleading and unable to move for pain?) Nothing can be worse than this.

Another night of listening to crying out in pain, juggling her own medication, told to take more and when she does, there is none left, the pharmacy don't have any, then it's the fight to get more medication prescribed, that's if you can get past the GP receptionist, who says there are no slots.

Was told there is no morphine left in Stranraer. So, she was just left to grin and bear cancer pain without medication.

Phoned Dumfries via her cancer nurse, who sent ambulance to house, taken to A&E, left in room alone for hours, given 2 days of tablets and sent home in the same distressed state, told to phone GP Monday morning, there's nothing we can do.

Admitted to a palliative care bed, you must be joking.

On Monday morning, all tablets taken, there are none left....

Trying to get a slot for a GP call back as they don't do house calls....  Failing getting anything done, it'll be a call back to Dumfries for help.

This is Palliative care Stranraer. Palliative care without any compassion and no chance of getting a bed.

I find this disgusting, disgraceful and sadly lacking in even a shred of humility....

This has caused untold distress and suffering.  Suffering that is witnessed by professionals and yet, still doesn't warrant a palliative care bed.

Uncontrolled pain that also doesn't warrant a palliative care assessment or a bed.
