About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I asked in regards to not being seen by anyone after 2.5 hours in UTC how long it would be as I had seen people who checked in after myself being seen before me. I was told I was wrong about this, but after being told I was 3rd in the queue, I was still waiting to be seen after I saw 5 people go in.

I was in severe agony with my eye and I was struggling to deal with the pain and I was also having difficulty with vision. I've never in my life felt so infuriated and disrespected by medical professionals.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your post about the care your recent visit to the UTC at Stepping Hill. I was sorry to read about your experience and how this impacted on your wait time in the department.

I have shared your concern with the Matron who advised that patients are seen in priority order and not in order of arrival. Also, some patients may often have had an examination and are then asked to sit back in the waiting room whilst waiting results and then called back through. The Matron appreciates that this can be distressing and has agreed to speak to the team in their meetings about the importance of making this clear when people are asking when they are likely to be seen. The department has also had some recent refurbishments so they will look to improving information signage about this.
