"Outstanding commitment"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Hospital Social Work Team University Hospital Hairmyres / Acute Stroke Unit (Ward 6)

(as a parent/guardian),

My elderly cousin had a huge stroke in April 2024. He was admitted to Hairmyres Hospital and I can say the care he received was fantastic all the Doctors and Nursing Staff warmed to him immediately. He has always been a very well mannered man throughout his life. Unfortunately I cannot remember the names of all the staff but I'd like them to know they were amazing! And he was treated very well and with dignity.

The hospital social work services were second to none, I have to give huge and much thanks to Nicole and Kathryn for their services to him and maintaining his well being. I couldn't have done it without them. Nursing teams and Social Workers really need recognition for all the hard and tiring work they do for people in need.

He celebrated his 81st birthday in January, a birthday I would never have believed he would see, but due to the care he received from all these wonderful people made that happen.

I cannot express my gratitude enough to you all.

Warmest wishes

Dear dancert55

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback on Care Opinion.

Experiencing a stroke can be a frightening and worrying time for individuals and their families, I am so pleased that you and your cousin developed such positive working relationships with all the staff at Hairmyres Hospital and felt so well cared for throughout your cousin’s admission.

As a Social Work team, supporting people discharging from hospital, we understand the anxieties and challenges both Supported People and their family/Carers may feel throughout this process, especially after such a life changing event. The team work very hard to ensure everyone we support receives the information and assistance they need to achieve a positive discharge from hospital. I will share your kind words and feedback with the team today, which I know will be gratefully received.

I wish you and your cousin all the best for the future, and please pass on our belated best birthday wishes.

Best regards

Emma McBride
