"Immediate assessment by stroke team"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Stroke Services

(as the patient),

I was experiencing symptoms and was very worried about the unfolding situation. I received immediate assessment including a CT and MRI scan. I had two doctors doing the assessment along with a nurse and also the Consultant, Dr Elamin. All the staff were very prompt, professional and were very reassuring and comforting.

A stroke was not confirmed but I was advised to get further investigation and although a bed was not available I was allowed home on medication and was asked to come back a few days later for admission.

On return I had a consultation with Dr Elamin and specialist nurse Sheila, who were absolutely brilliant. Dr Elamin explained in detail his findings and what was to happen next, Sheila accompanied me to the ward and answered all my frantic and random questions, she was very kind compassionate and very calming. The staff on the ward were also amazing, nothing was too much to ask and they were always available to answer questions or help out where needed.

The whole experience was a very stressful, worrying and challenging time for me and my family, made better by the amazing staff with quick and thorough investigations. I was extremely reassured by the lengths that Dr Elamin went to find a reason for my ill health, no stone was left unturned. Firstly Sheila for her unbelievable compassion and kindness and to all the rest of the staff I encountered at the SWAH I am eternally grateful.
