I found out I was pregnant , this is my first pregnancy. I booked a private scan when I was 5 weeks. I attended the scan really excited that I was going to see my baby.
When I was scanned they couldn't see a pregnancy, this freaked me out. They then try to explain it to me but I was really upset, all I took on board was that I needed to contact the early pregnancy unit at Wishaw hospital.
I contacted them and was given a scan the next day. They had the same finding and I then had to have blood test to see what was happening. This then resulted in further bloods and a further scan. Thankfully the outcome was good and at my next scan there was a tiny baby with a heart beat less than 6 weeks.
I can't thank the ladies a Wishaw Early Pregancy enough, Michelle and Susan explained everything to me and I then realised that I had just gone my scan to early, they explained how a pregnancy develops and that is can take up to 8 weeks for the babies heart to beat.
I had no understanding of this before going for my private scan. I wish I had waited and saved my self lots of worry and anxiety. The ladies at this unit are so caring, Michelle, Susan and all the ladies I encountered in ward were brilliant!
Looking back I wish I had waited to go for my private scan when I was further on. I also realised the this indirectly cost the NHS money and that I had used there resources which are very thin on the ground and there would have been other ladies that needed these scans more urgently than me.
My advice to other women don't go for a private scsn before 8 weeks!
