"My husband feels that he has been forgotten about"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

In December 2020 my husband lost the power in his legs , he was admitted to the RVH , concerned it might have been a stroke he was put on the Neurology waiting list. To date he has no appointment.

He has pins and needles in his hands and feet cannot walk more that 3 meters that he has to stop as he feels his legs are going to give way and he is breathless . He is unable to work, which is now affecting his mental health.

My husband now feels that he has been forgotten about by the Belfast trust as this is now four and half years waiting on an appointment.

Dear waiting2020,

Due to significant pressure on the system and a demand, which far outstrips the capacity of the service, waiting times are significantly longer than we would want for the patients we treat.

The Neurology team are continuing to explore options to reduce the waiting times using validation of waiting lists. The team will be in touch with you as soon as they are able to offer you a date for the Neurology clinic.

I sincerely apologise that the length of time waiting for this appointment has had such a negative impact on your daily life. Should your symptoms change or deteriorate whilst your remain on the waiting list then it is important that your GP is aware of this. Any new information will be passed onto the Neurology team to consider the urgency of your appointment.
