"Thorough, informative and reassuring"

About: Victoria Hospital / Colorectal Unit Victoria Hospital / General Surgery

(as a service user),

Having been referred by my GP, an appointment was arranged recently. The discussion centred on the possibility of bowel/colon cancer.

Accordingly, it was decided that I should go for a CT scan.

At this meeting I was allowed to express my perceptions and fears regarding the possible outcomes of the scan based on a previous/ongoing cancer diagnosis.

Mr. Ekatah listened extremely carefully to my concerns and indeed those of my wife. He responded in a very full and caring manner and throughout was reassuring, compassionate and patient. His professionalism went a long way towards putting my mind at rest.

The scan duly took place and I was invited back to discuss the findings and to determine next steps.

This meeting with Mr. Ekatah was again extremely thorough, informative and reassuring.

His understanding of the patient perspective as well as his professional skill and knowledge were always to the fore.

Options were presented clearly to allow me to make an informed decision.

I wish to express our sincere thanks to Mr. Ekatah for the way in which he managed both appointments.

He is an absolute credit to the hospital and his profession.
