When I attended the reception was closed for ‘training’. No sign to indicate this. Several people needed face to face help. One patient knocked on door. Asked by fairly brusque staff member for details. Same staff member then gave an update to the patient (about test results) loudly so that whole room could hear- breaching confidentiality and dignity of that patient.
I saw doctor for an eye issue. Told to go to A&E. I queried as in past, in a previous location, I had been referred to eye specialist. Doctor insisted that going to A&E was the only way. I attended the local A&E only to be told there that there are no eye specialists and that if an emergency, Manchester Eye hospital would be the place. If not an emergency, GP could make a referral. I therefore wasted most of the day travelling around Tameside needlessly. I’ve checked the Manchester eye hospital website and I do not fit into the emergency category, and the website even has info for GPs on how to refer etc. I expect
Professionals to have a basic idea of what they are doing. And I expect a certain consistency of service, no matter where you live in the country.
