"Poor care provided by doctor"

About: Lagan Valley Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as the patient),

I attended the clinic for when my appointment was scheduled. The woman who triaged me was lovely and I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name.

Unfortunately after this I was left to wait for 3 hours in the waiting room and only got seen to when I asked the receptionist why I hadn’t been called yet. For context I was there for difficulty breathing due to exposure to chemicals. I was advised to head to hospital immediately by the firefighters and I told this to the hospital staff.

The doctor I seen after my wait was lovely at first. They took my bloods, then when I turned back to see what was taking them so long I seen my blood all over the doctor's lap and on the floor. This would have been fine if it weren’t for the fact they left me alone in the room for 15 minutes while I banged on the walls for help. I was in a fainting spell for 15 minutes while nurses and doctors ignored me shouting for help and banging the wall.

This seems a bit extreme for fainting but keep in mind I was there because my airways were damaged from the chemical gas and I’d had nothing to eat or drink in hours. I also have a heart condition so the fact I couldnt even stand up to go get help was scaring me more. Thank god for the nurse who triaged me at the start because she found me slumped over on the chair. She was an absolute angel and brought me to a hospital bed in the back to check my blood pressure and heart rate (both of which were low obviously) and she got me an ecg.

The doctor who left me previously then reappeared to tell me my bloods were not normal, but normal enough to go home and that my body should work itself out, great help thanks!

Hi ospreyxf54

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your experience when you attended the Urgent Care Centre at Lagan Valley. I am disappointed to hear of your experience and how you were treated at the time of your attendance. I will discuss your case with the nurse in charge and the medical lead and remind them of the importance of supporting all patients at a time that can be challenging and frightening for them.

I do hope you are recovering from the chemical incident exposure and keeping well.

Kind Regards

Jenny

Emergency Care Lead Nurse
