My dad had a very nasty fall last week, he spent 3hrs in Skegness Urgent Care where they just put a dressing on his wounds and he sat there 3hrs they never cleaned him up or anything. He has Parkinson's and had fell walking, face planting the floor, his face was a mess and both his hands were injured.
After 3hrs my 74 yr old mum was told to take him to the trauma unit at Pilgrim, they were expecting him so we wouldn't have to go via Pilgrim A&E I then took them as my mum can't drive far and she can't manage my dad on her own.
We get to the trauma unit with our brown envelope, they didn't have a clue we was coming so told to sit and wait along with the other 5 patients that had come from Skegness Urgent Care during the morning, this was by now approx. 1230.
At 4 ish they decided to have a look and attempt to clean him up, his hand had actually got a large gash which needed steri strips, the nurse in there Hannah was lovely and friendly the doctor came round and said there was no mention on his notes from Skegness he had facial injuries just hand but he was cleaned up sent for an x-ray, bloods taken, tetanus given and antibiotics.
We left there in the evening, that was 11hrs. Why aren't Skegness able to wash a wound out? Why didn't Skegness notice the massive gash and why did they allow them to sit there 3hrs before telling them to go to Pilgrim? It was a very long and frustrating day I fully understand how busy hospitals are but surely if Skegness had washed and dressed the wound we wouldn't of had to go to Pilgrim, taking another 9hrs he could of been in and out in the first 3.
I know its priority classed but wash out and dressed would of meant one patient less taking up hospital time
