"Hernia Operation"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C4 Male Surgical Whiteabbey Hospital / Pre-Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

I feel the process was quite drawn out unnecessarily.

Diagnosed by GP, seen months later by Consultant at Antrim Hospital. Seen again by a consultant at Antrim Hospital about 9 months later. Then pre- assessment clinic at Whiteabbey Hospital. Week later Pre-Op clinic at Antrim Hospital, then procedure to be 1 week after.

Hi herculesee65,

My name is Marie Devlin and I am the manager of the pre -op assessment team, I's sorry to hear that you felt that your surgical journey was drawn out unnecessarily.

This process can be very important and necessary for some patients as it allows the different teams involved the opportunity to ensure that each patient is prepared and optimised for their surgery, and in our case their anaesthetic.

This reduces the risk of patients being cancelled on the day of their surgery which can be upsetting for the patient and a waste of a theatre slot which could be utilised by another patient.

Hopefully when you attended your appointment with us that you found it a positive experience as the staff all work very hard to make each patients experience personal to them. We understand that patients can be very apprehensive about their surgery and anaesthetic and we try to allay any fears or worries that they may have.

I wish you well with your pending surgery and a speedy recovery.

Regards Marie
