"Quick Treatment"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Alexandra Hospital / GP Out of Hours

(as the patient),

I suffered a second bout of tonsillitis in the last few months, my intention was to wait for my own GP to open on the Monday morning however by the Sunday I was nearly unable to swallow and began coughing up blood. I phoned 111, who despite the long waiting times were extremely helpful and after a brief call with a nurse, was given an appointment at the RAH out of hours GP service.

The triage nurse had me in almost straight away and I was waiting no time at all to see the doctor afterwards who after a thorough exam sent me away with a prescription for antibiotics and a throat spray, just in time for me to get a pre-night shift nap which was very much appreciated!

Really quick and efficient service although once again, the 111 waiting times did leave a lot to be desired, it really is a significantly under resourced service (as with most of the NHS) but the staff were all spot on.

Dear OnlyStevie

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. It's lovely to hear of the quick and efficient service you received when you were feeling unwell with tonsilitis. I do hope you are now starting to feel much better.

I reply on behalf of NHS 24, if you wish to share more information with me, including your Care Opinion user name then I can locate the agents you spoke with and share your kind words with them. We always try to ensure our staff see positive feedback to reinforce to them how valued their care is when people call our services. You can contact me by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk.

Please accept our apologies for initial wait for your call to be answered. Unfortunately, due to the demand on our service there are occasions when wait times can be extended, however this is not the experience we wish for our callers and we are working hard trying to reduce this as much as possible.

Thank you again for sharing your story.

Kind Regards

Laura
