"So grateful for the team"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Last year I lost my baby at 5 months, right as I was about to start my third trimester, and I almost lost my own life too. I lost so much blood so quickly that everything became a blur. The next thing I knew, I was in the surgery room with what felt like the whole team around me.

I will never forget how everyone was running around, completely focused but calm, shouting instructions to each other, talking to me constantly so I’d stay awake. Even in that chaos, they knew exactly what they were doing—you could just feel how competent they were. The only moment I realised how serious it was was when every time I took a slow breath, my whole body jumped on the table—and even then, they kept talking to me, encouraging me, not giving up.

Because of them, I’m still here. That’s not something I can ever thank them enough for.

Afterwards, they kept me in for a few days, and the way they cared didn’t stop there. They’d pop in just to check on me or chat, and they went the extra mile to give me a memory pack for my baby—footprints, handprints, his blanket, even a little silver bracelet with a heart charm.

I still think about it a year later and feel this huge wave of gratitude. The gynaecology team at Ninewells didn’t just treat me, they saved me. They were persistent, they were skilled, and they never gave up on me. I’m so proud and thankful to have been in their care.

Dear Bynotdina,

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, especially regarding a time that must have been extremely difficult and traumatic for you and your family. I am so sorry to hear your baby died, please accept our condolences. I am so pleased to read that the care you received made you feel safe and cared for. I will ensure this is shared with the team. We wish you well for the future. Best wishes Claire Massey, Lead Midwife for Women's Services
