Today I had an ultrasound scan at the NDDH radiology department. I was extremely nervous as it wasn’t just an external ultrasound scan and I was nervous about the results. The ultrasound assistant, Ben, and my sonographer, Teresa, couldn’t have been more lovely, supportive and comforting. They talked me through absolutely everything and made sure I was comfortable throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. I felt so cared for and looked after, it made my experience much easier and although I didn’t find it pleasant, I got through it with their support!

Sadly, I didn’t have the same experience with the receptionist that I spoke to who I felt was quite blunt when I asked a question about my scan.

I am a Diagnostic Radiographer with many years experience of working, and imaging patients, in all areas of the Radiology department. I am also responsible for the governance in Radiology and so make sure that we are compliant with the many ionising radiation regulations that dictate what we can and can't do in radiology, keep the patients and staff safe and ensure we are practicing safely. I also deal with our policies and procedures and oversee compliments, complaints and quality.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your ultrasound scan. I was very glad to read that both Ben and Teresa were able to look after you and help you through the whole process, making it much easier for you; I have passed your kind feedback onto them this morning and they will both be very pleased to receive it.

I am sorry to read that you didn't have the same positive experience with the reception staff, for which I can only apologise. I have forwarded your feedback to the admin team manager and we will be discussing this further as a senior team and ensuring further training and support for the reception staff as its absolutely not the experience, or first impression, that we want for our patients.

I hope that your experience at reception has not impacted too much on what was, although unpleasant, a positive and supportive experience for you.
