"This has been a real help"

About: Community Occupational Therapy / Kirkcaldy & Postural Management

(as a carer),

The occupational therapy girl, Gillian, was amazing, she went through the whole house with me to asses what she could do to help my husband, who is in his late 80s and has dementia.

One of the pieces of equipment she suggested was a bed rail which enables my husband to get in and out of bed by himself.

This has been a real help as he gets up at least twice in the night and I was having to get up to assist him and I no longer have to do that. This helps me and my husband as he felt bad having to wake me up all the time.

Dear aquilajt33

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and for the kind words about the support provided by Gillian, one of our Community Occupational Therapy team members.

I was truly delighted to read how Gillian’s involvement made such a positive difference to you and your husband at a time when you really needed support. Her dedication and compassionate approach reflect the core mission of our service — to help people maximise their safety, independence, and wellbeing in everyday activities.

It’s wonderful to hear that the bed rail has made such a meaningful impact, allowing your husband to move more independently and giving you some much-needed rest during the night. These kinds of outcomes are exactly what we strive for, and your feedback not only affirms the value of our work but also uplifts staff morale and reminds us why we do what we do.

Gillian was thrilled to read your appreciative comments. They meant a great deal to her — and to me as her manager.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and deeply appreciated.

Warm regards,
Neil Carnegie
