"Birth/Maternity"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Maternity care

(as the patient),

We have nothing but praise for every single person part of our care since bringing our baby into this world and before!

I was on M1 Ward at DRI the week before our baby made his entrance at 36 weeks due to becoming insulin resistant with GDM and although I was unwell I was looked after so well, every midwife and MSW was so welcoming and caring!

There are a few special midwives who just couldn’t do enough while we were there who were Jolyene and Amy! Amy was my midwife a few times and also before and when I got back from my Emergency section and she is amazing I always felt like I was being listened to and nothing was ever a stupid question.

Infant feeding team…what an amazing team! Our baby got assessed for a tongue tie which he had and I didn’t think he did so thank goodness for them! They made sure he was latched well and made breastfeeding such a positive experience. Carol was just a message or a call away for all support and advice through all the tears and laughs and there were a lot of tears and she is still supporting us on this journey

Claire is with us too and she has a heart of gold nothing sounds stupid and she is always there.

Mental Health Midwife Ella…she was with me from the start my community midwife thought it would be good to have a MH Midwife after falling pregnant so quick after our miscarriage and she wasn’t wrong! I struck Gold with Ella it takes someone special to be the angel you really are…through every hospital admission while he was brand new and to him being discharged from you, you made a difference and it wouldn't have been possible without you!

Community midwife Sonia…I owe my life to you! On day 21 just before Sonia was coming our baby started turning grey and was getting sleepy as I started to panic the front gate went and Sonia was here she came to our house to weigh him as he wasn’t putting on weight very fast but our child wasn’t well at all….Sonia and her beautiful student was handed a very grey baby and everything moved like lightening and next thing I know Sonia had my baby with every bit of love and care in the ambulance and told us to follow behind in the car as it was going to be a stressful journey and then we turned up to a resus room with about 30 people waiting for our child and although Sonia was dealing with my baby she still made sure I was ok…I wasn’t but she was there for us and she promised me she would not let go of my baby and she never did, without Sonia I wouldn’t like to even think where we would be right now! Once we were in high dependency she came back to see us that afternoon and that meant the world to us!

Not forgetting Jess from Triage who always was welcoming when we had to make a quick visit and was also the one that was going to take us for our C-section and I was so nervous but seeing a familiar face that morning was a breath of fresh air and I immediately calmed down.

Our baby was born healthy and we were home in 48 hours little did we know at day 21 everything would change and we would find out that he had a ruptured brain aneurysm and would need major open brain surgery and thank goodness this happened before we were discharged from the midwives' because they all still supported us through it all!

What amazing ladies you all are ❤️❤️❤️❤️
