(as a service user),

I have lost all my siblings with cancer, two with bowel one with lung.  the latest in April this year.  I attended my local GP surgery, Pipeland Medical Practice in St Andrews, and Doctor Burgess referred me to the Genetics Clinic.  After a short period, I was given appointments for CT scan, MRI Scan. Both the Scans were carried out at Ninewells.  It transpired I had polyps that needed removed.

I had an endoscopy 2 months ago to remove the polyps.  Unfortunately, they were unable to remove one polyp as it was too close to another organ.

I then had a pre assessment for surgery later on in the month followed by a TEMS procedure 1 week after this, carried out by Mr Vijayasekar, who took a biopsy of the remaining polyp.  It was then arranged for me to have a meeting with Mr Vijayasekar to discuss the way forward. The information given to me was very clear and reassuring.

I was admitted to Ward 36 this month to have the necessary pre operation paperwork carried out and health checks made by the nurses.  The Consultant, Assistant to the Consultant and Anaesthetist visited me to explain what they would doing.  Again, I found both very good and reassuring.

The position of the polyp made it very challenging for Mr Vijayasekar but it was carried out successfully.

After surgery I was returned to Ward 36 where the staff were very kind and attentive.  I felt the ward was run very efficiently, and it was apparent that the staff had a good working rapport with each other.

My treatment is not finished but I could not have asked for a better surgeon. The care and attention I have received from the outset of my journey has been excellent.
