"A heartfelt thank you"

About: Cardiology / Cath Lab bay Cardiology / Ward 5B Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

When I went to work on a Friday morning I didn’t expect to spend the day in ED, then almost 2 weeks under the care of cardiology in ward 5B and treated by the amazing cath lab team.

I was blown away by the care, compassion and attention to detail from all of the healthcare team, including all the supportive services.

The nurses are all so hardworking, professional and their high level of expertise was very reassuring. The balance of much needed humour with a high level of empathy and support felt like a fine tuned skill on such an incredibly busy ward. I have to mention how great Joanne and Geraldine run the ward showing amazing leadership. I can’t list everyone but I wanted to thank Escelina for her support during my tearful days, SN Myra for looking after me when I felt unwell, Brenda and Melisa for keeping me sane and our chats of putting the world to right, the porter (whose name I can’t remember I’m sorry) who took me the “long way” to cardiac investigations because I was stir crazy and couldn’t leave the ward. The medical team who worked so hard to ensure I was out in time to support my dad though surgery - thank you Nicky and Sita. And the wonderful bubbly chatty care from Jonah, Vanessa, Rinju, Sinu, Kevin, Michelle and Paula. I’m sure I’ve forgotten people but I can’t thank all the staff enough.

I was very nervous going into the cath lab, but the chats and humour immediately put me at ease, with such great care once I woke up. I had complete confidence in Dr Noad who took plenty of time to explain everything thoroughly, and had complete confidence in her expertise.

Thank you all again for your incredible care!

Dear Laura 82,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m John Barron, Service Manager for Adult Urgent & Emergency Care at Belfast Trust, and I’m delighted to read how well supported you felt during your time in ED, Ward 5B, and the Cath Lab.

It’s wonderful to hear that the combination of professional expertise, compassion and even a touch of humour helped you feel reassured and cared for throughout. I’m very pleased that nurses, doctors, the Cath Lab team and wider support staff were able to put you at ease and provide clear explanations, and that leadership across the ward ensured such a coordinated, patient-centred approach.

Feedback like yours means a great deal to our teams and reflects the dedication and professionalism they bring every day.

Thank you again, and I hope you are continuing to recover well.

Best wishes,
John
