I attended for a DXA scan on late October, 2024 and was made aware there would be a delay in any results as the skilled resource to inspect the scan were sparse and my scan would be examined in the future.  

I was offered an appt.,  at Rheumatology Clinic on late November 2025.  The consultant Mr. Harvey apologised for the lengthy delay, I assured him I was aware of the demands on NHS Services.  He explained a group of consultants have taken on extra duties to deal with the scan backlog  results.

Mr. Harvey explained the forward plan of treatment with me and arranged blood tests after my consultation to prescribe me medication until the treatment plan commences in January.

I was most reassured by the planning which has obviously been put into dealing with osteoporosis and the knowledge that there is a named nurse I can contact if I have any issues while Stage 1 treatment is in progress,  Also being made aware of the resources available from The Royal Osteoporosis Society.

I was then attended to by Haematology Nurse Jo for blood testing.  Again, friendly, helpful, explaining what tests etc., would be taken.

We are sorry for the delay that you have experienced. We are working hard to try to reduce delay across the whole pathway for patients suspected to have osteoporosis.
