Due to having been diagnosed with Adenomyosis and endometrisis in my early 40s, I have had various surgeries both through the nhs and privately. The last of these surgeries was under the care of the endometriosis clinic for the west of Scotland. I cannot speak highly enough of the both specialist consultants, Dr Hawthorne and Dr Datsun. Dr Datsun in particular has been an integral part of my health journey for the last decade and her advice and knowledge has been invaluable in guiding me to the healthier and happier place I am lucky enough to be in now. We are very fortunate to have both their skill and commitment in the West of Scotland.
I want to take this opportunity to highlight Rosie, the clinical nurse specialist and how important a role she plays. Apart from all the work she does behind the scenes, having her to contact before surgery, and the care she provides following, I believe makes or breaks the healing and progress following surgery. To be pain free and mobile is thanks to the surgery itself, but to move forward with with a good quality of life and achieving the balance of hormones, healing and correct medications, is thanks to Rosie. How Rosie manages the care of all patients under the consultant care is beyond me. There is a lot of failing in women’s health and in endometriosis diagnosis and care, however my experience is, if you are fortunate enough to fall under the care of the West of Scotland team, a better quality of life is possible. I can only imagine what I may have been able to achieve if this care had been available on my teens or 20s, and can only hope that the team is able to grow and provide care for the many who need it.
