About: Talking Therapies Rotherham

(as a service user),

I had 20 sessions of CBT spread out over a year. When I started I was depressed, anxious, had no self confidence. I’ve had to work hard during and in between sessions, but they have made a huge difference. I feel ready to face the big world without my therapist and confident it will continue.

Good afternoon F1xed,

It's really nice to meet you, I'm Faye, the Clinical Lead at Rotherham Talking Therapies. I saw your feedback appear in my inbox yesterday after I finished for the day, and was really looking forward to replying today!

I'm sorry to hear that you were having such a difficult time prior to coming into the service, struggling with anxiety, depression, and no self-confidence. I know that each of those problems can have an impact on the others so it must have been really hard to live with all three. I'm so pleased to see that your sessions have made a big difference to how you feel.

You make a really good point about therapy requiring hard work during and between each session!

CBT is a very proactive type of talking therapy (some people even call it a doing therapy!), and simply attending each session doesn't often lead to a big improvement. I think of it like taking piano lessons. If you attend your lesson each week you might learn something new, but without sitting and practicing each day you're not going to get better at playing! It's clear to me that you must have worked incredibly hard alongside your therapist to have experienced such a positive outcome, and I hope that you're able to recognise what you've achieved.

Feeling like you're ready to face the world without your therapist by your side is amazing, and it's exactly how CBT therapists hope people feel once the sessions come to an end! Now you have the skills and knowledge to continue on with your journey. I hope things continue to improve for you.

Thank you so much for your time in sharing this with me, I really appreciate hearing your insight. Wishing you all the best in the future, and I hope 2026 is kind to you!

Kindest regards,

Faye

Clinical Lead
