"ADHD post diagnostic support"

About: Children & Young People Physical Health / Rotherham Children's Neuro Development Service

(as a parent/guardian),

There were lots of questions following the GP referral which I felt were unnecessary and delayed the process. Then there was no indication of a waiting list time for me to establish what I was up against when my daughter needs support. The screening appointment was well conducted but then to have to wait 10 months for medication seems counterproductive as so much could change for my daughter in that time least of which height, weight and blood pressure.

It doesn’t feel like the process is efficient. If there are questions pick up the phone to the parent. If you know wait times be transparent to help parents plan and position things. Do the screening when you are in a position to help.

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience.

I am sorry to hear that we have not met expectations and I apologise that the process has not felt efficient.

We are aware that currently our waiting times for post diagnosis support are ever increasing and are far longer than we wish them to be.

We are working hard to review demand and capacity within the post diagnosis team to work on reducing our waiting times.

I will share your feedback with the Post‑Diagnosis Clinical Lead, particularly regarding the screening process and the gap between appointments. While some patients choose not to pursue medication and are signposted to alternative support, I completely understand your concern that for those who do want to explore medication, a further ten‑month wait feels counterproductive.

As we continue to review the service to ensure we are working as efficiently as possible to meet the demand, patient feedback like this is really useful to help shape the service moving forwards and will support to make change.

Kind regards

Caroline
