Today was my second visit to Royal Surrey, firstly being onboarded into the Oncology Department and today undertaking tests and taking my first of many treatments to come. Notwithstanding the nervousness of dealing with the reason for being there, the site is huge and on various levels which for a newcomer, is quite daunting.
Whilst the signage is excellent, on both days, we obviously looked disorientated and unsure of where we were going. I simply cannot say how thoughtful and kind, every single member of staff we came across, with staff of all kinds actually stopping their business to ask if they could help us. From Porters, to Nurse to non uniformed staff and reception, we felt so welcome and allowed us to be at places on time and doing the various tests and treatments in different areas.
Furthermore, the hospital is immaculately clean. The toilets, everywhere and has no smell that you're in a hospital. I had already heard excellent reports about Guildford but whoever is leading this Hospital, sending this simplest of messages down through all levels and departments about being welcoming, helpful really has permeated down throughout the culture. For two nervous newcomers, this really stood out and made me put pen to paper. Thank you to all there for doing this most basic, but important gesture, it's very kind
