"My husbands stay"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C4 Male Surgical

(as a relative),

My husband presented at the Emergency Department in the early hours of the morning with severe centralised chest pain. He was triaged quite quickly (bloods taken and ECG performed) but then returned to the waiting room. It was repeated a couple of hours later. It was incredibly busy with a wait of 15 hours. 6 hours after his arrival, he was seen by a Consultant who took more bloods, ordered an x-ray and arranged pain relief. My husband was referred to the surgical team and 12 hours after presenting at the emergency department, he was moved to an area with reclining chairs. The decision was taken that he was to be admitted and just had to wait on a bed. A CT scan was carried that evening and an MRI the following afternoon confirming that his pain was acute pancreatitis caused by an inflamed gallbladder. The gallbladder needed to be removed. Following his MRI a bed became available on ward C4 and surgery scheduled for two days later. Due to emergency operations having to take place, my husband didn't get his surgery until a week after his admission and got home the day after.

I cannot fault his care. At every stage, the overworked staff from domestic staff, healthcare assistants, nurses and doctors were so pleasant, professional and did everything to make his stay as pleasant as possible.

Dear Hayleyb203

I'm sorry your husband had such a long time to be seen by the doctor, but thank you for taking the time to provide the staff with such lovely feedback
