"Radical hysterectomy"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was admitted for a radical hysterectomy, I was treated great at my Appointment, I met all the usual people , nurses, doctors, surgeons. I woke up in ward 56 and I could not speak more highly of the nurses and staff in this ward . Nothing was an issue , from asking to be helped to be showered to asking for water. Nothing was an issue.

I met so many nurses in my 5 days there.  Caitlin, Caitlyn, Mary, holly, Olivia, jay, Elaine, staff nurse Regina, staff nurse Donna and many more, the cleaners were top of their game. Never any mess on the ward, kitchen staff always helpful with breakfast lunch and dinner.  Some staff have slipped my mind but could not fault any of them. Even when I had to go back later to have catheter taken out , I met them all again and it was like meeting up with my old friends. They all remembered my name.

They are a credit to the nursing system and if I was ever to go back to ward 56. I would know I would be looked after.

Dear dx26,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience following your radical hysterectomy. Your feedback means a great deal to us all.

I am delighted to hear that you felt so well cared for throughout your stay on Ward 56. Our nursing, medical, domestic and catering teams work hard to ensure patients feel supported, comfortable and respected at every stage, and it is wonderful to know that this was your experience.

You mentioned so many members of staff by name — Caitlin, Caitlyn, Mary, Holly, Olivia, Jay, Elaine, Staff Nurse Regina, Staff Nurse Donna — and I will make sure each of them, as well as the wider ward team, hear your kind words. It is especially lovely that you felt remembered and welcomed when you returned for your catheter removal; that sense of familiarity and reassurance is exactly what we strive for.

Our domestic and catering colleagues will also be thrilled to hear your praise. They play an essential role in maintaining a safe, clean and supportive environment, and it is wonderful to see their efforts recognised.

Thank you again for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. I wish you all the very best in your recovery, and please be assured that if you ever do return to Ward 56, we will be here to look after you.

Warmest regards,
Nikki Harvey
Lead Nurse, Gynaecology
