"My dad's treatment at end of life"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Older Adult Rehabilitation Wards (Ward 2A, 6A, 6C, 8A & 8C)

(as a relative),

The care my dad received on this ward was a disgrace. My dad had a grade 1 pressure ulcer, he had a broken hip and was transferred to ward 6A for rehabilitation. I requested an air mattress, only to be told it wasn't needed as his pressure sore was away, which was not the case.

We were met with hostility if we raised any concerns, physio was a joke, I got the bed bound decision reversed, but was told he wasn't allowed to be hoisted, it took too long but wasn't able to speak to the head physio, who was wonderful.

It took literary 5mins to hoist him, so thanks to the staff on the ward my dad lived his last few months in excruciating pain.

When he was transferred to another hospital, which was wonderful, they told me that they'd never saw anything so horrific in 20 years of nursing (pressure sore was right through to his tendon) it hadn't even been getting dressed properly.

The level of care and professionalism my dad received was disgraceful. In our experience, elderly Care is a shambles with no accountability or empathy, it's heart breaking the way he was treated.

My dad didn't deserve this ending, they made a horrific situation a million times worse and made his last month's so so much worse than they should have been.
