My son has had 2 quite traumatic injuries in the last 4 months- he's a very active boy. The first was a bike accident. He could only limp to the start of the den where 2 healthcare workers helped him across the car park. A porter on his break then grabbed a wheel chair, helped him call me and stayed with him until I arrived in a&e. He then spent the remainder of his break retrieving his bike from the Den. He then came to check in on him. Truly wonderful - Colin. My son was then seen by a lovely consultant Claire, who fully assessed his injuries whilst keeping him calm. Amy the nurse then stepped in to help clean all the gravel out of my sons wounds and painstakingly took her time whilst keeping very upbeat. My son will be scarred but the healthcare team really took care of him and that will stay with us longer than the scars.
The second injury was due to Mma. We were seen very quickly, Vicki the nurse practitioner was fabulous. She knew instinctively that it was a serious injury but was so nurturing and caring. My sons thumb was broken in 2 places and this was all shown to him and explained so well. He was then splinted and follow ups happened quicker than expected. As mum who feels very helpless in these situations it was so lovely how well he was taken care of.
"Really took care of him"
