I was admitted with terrible abdominal pain and sickness thought I was dying, when we arrived there was a number of people waiting on the chairs in pain in front of me, after waiting for about 2 hours I started being violently sick and in so much pain I ended up on the floor, the nurse came and got a trolley to put me on and wheeled me through onto the corridor and took bloods etc, I must have kind of blacked out as I couldn’t remember getting taken through to a cubicle where I had woken up and was on drips and sickness medicine, morphine etc.
The doctor then came to see me in the morning and said I had an acute pancreatitis caused by my gallstones and the gallbladder had to come out and because it was so inflamed I would need to wait till the inflammation calmed down before that could happen. Over the next nine days waiting on the MRI as there was a long backlog for this type of scan I was moved three times, which wasn’t doing my anxiety any good as I suffer with this and because my bloods weren’t very good they had taken me off a few of my medications to try and see if it would help them. I totally understand that this needed to be done and it’s no fault of anyone and everywhere I went they where all lovely and looked after you even though I seen a lot of not very nice patients who were really nasty to them which I totally uncalled for.
The surgeon was amazing and from the first day I seen him he explained everything to me drawing me diagrams explaining all about it which I found really helpful, After 16 days I got the gallbladder removed and was allowed to go home the next day. I just would like to say the staff were amazing from the nurses, doctors, radiologists, porters and healthcare assistants to the theatre staff and they deserve a medal.
Thank you so much xx
