"Having a heart attack whilst on holiday in Spain"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Cardiac rehab

(as the patient),

I was on holiday In Spain when suddenly I had a heart attack resulting in 5 stents and a stay in hospital. The medical team in Spain were outstanding. When home I completed Cardiac Rehab programme in Causeway hospital Coleraine From Jan to Feb 2026. I will be forever grateful to Cheryl and her whole team for giving me back my confidence. I gained great knowledge and understanding from them and the Heart Manual. Before that I wouldn’t go out on my own. I was scared to eat certain foods.

My biggest problem was the carpark availability. It made me anxious and didn’t help the blood pressure and heart rate. I was afraid to exercise but now I know the importance of the nutrition and exercise and medication.

Without this I don’t what I would have done. My rehab would probably have taken much longer as I wasn’t aware of all the issues. Meeting other people with the same problem meant we were able to share our experiences.

Hello my name is Mark Morrow from Estate Services. Thank you for sharing your story concerning carpark availability. I am pleased to be able to inform you that the Trust has secured the funding to increase car parking capacity on Causeway site with works due to commence very shortly. This will provide approximately 90 additional spaces which should improve availability in the near future.

Wishing you well with your continuing recovery,

Mark
