I want to thank the staff who provided me with the wonderful care I recently received from two different hospitals in Ayrshire: Crosshouse and Ayr.

On Friday afternoon I suddenly felt severe, debilitating pain in my left side. I went to A&E at Crosshouse Hospital where I was seen by a very kind visiting consultant, Dr Badr. He and the whole team at Crosshouse (A&E nurses, CT imaging, and the porters) were all so kind and provided me with care quickly and professionally.

I was then referred to Ayr Hospital's Combined Assessment Unit to be seen by the urology team. I am so very grateful for the team there who made what was a frightening experience as comfortable as possible.

In particular I would like to highlight and thank Dr Watson, the consultant urologist. She spoke to me at length about my kidney stone and clearly explained the surgical options available to me. I am so grateful for her obvious knowledge, professionalism, and candid attitude. She made me feel like I was making the right decision despite my natural hesitation about general surgery. She also made sure to follow-up in detail with me afterwards and showed no impatience in answering the (many) questions I had.

In addition I would like to thank the entire nursing team at Ayr CAU who were unendingly kind and supportive. The surgical team who took me into theatre were so kind and reassuring. They turned a very frightening experience into a relaxing, humourous one.

The surgery and anaesthesiology was also incredibly efficient. I was awake and recovering less than 5 hours after I entered Ayr hospital, and I felt virtually normal the moment I woke up. Finally, the nurses in the Station 4 ward where I recovered were also similarly excellent. I saw them providing wonderful care to everyone on the ward.

All of this is to say that my experience, especially at Ayr CAU Urology, has made me immensely grateful for everyone with whom I interacted.

Please pass my sincere thanks on to them.
