"support and care helped me recover"

About: Downe Hospital / Orthopaedic ICATS The Ulster Hospital / Emergency Department The Ulster Hospital / Occupational Therapy Trauma and Orthopaedic Outpatient Team

(as the patient),

After a 12-hour wait at A&E in excruciating pain, which was certainly not a pleasant experience, I was contacted the following day by the fracture clinic at Down Hospital. I cannot praise their diligence highly enough. The doctors, nurses and radiographers involved in my treatment were absolutely amazing.

When they learned that I was still working despite being at retirement age, they arranged for me to see the occupational therapists at Ulster Hospital. I attended seven sessions with the occupational therapy team and I have to say they were brilliant.

During my visits I met Manny and Erica, but I was mainly treated by Elaine McKenna. Her help and advice were invaluable to my recovery. At every session she listened carefully to my concerns and provided exercises for me to do at home, which I followed diligently.

As a photographer, I am now able to carry out about 95% of my usual tasks, and I could not be happier with the progress I have made.

Thank you to the NHS, and especially Down hospital fracture clinic doctors and nurses and a huge thanks to  Elaine, for all the support and care that helped me recover.

Hi jackpotkn47

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your experience when attending the Ulster ED. I am sorry to hear your wait to be seen was longer than we would like and it was uncomfortable for you. It is good to hear that your care since ED has been very positive and you have made a very good recovery.

With the opening of our new Urgent Care service last year we are continually reviewing our services and looking opportunities to improve our waiting times, this will be ongoing.

Best wishes

Jenny
