Dad had a fall, went to hospital and stayed for about 15 days. He had multiple tests , scans and assessment. He was in Ayr hospital and all the staff met by our family were caring, thoughtful, communicative and kind. Dad came home with a catheter but was happy to be home. Unfortunately he returned to hospital , within a few weeks, and his health deteriorated. He was using oxygen but my mum desperately wanted him home we were listened to and helped Dad came home with support from Hospitals at home, district nurses ,his own GP and some care support . He was visited by physios, dieticians, speech therapists and doctors all of whom were warm , considerate and made dad feel at ease. We were given some additional things to support in the house, all delivered with a smile. As dad deteriorated the support became stronger always focusing on dad’s needs and considering my mum . Dad passed away on the 15th March , peacefully at home. It was a traumatic time which was eased as much as possible by the unwavering help from all the people who attended. Nurses came at night iwhen weather was freezing and gales were blowing, entering dads home with warm smiles and efficient care . Carers came each evening at 9.00 pm , all weather and entered home with confident ease,, helping dad to settle for the night knowing he was clean fresh and ready to sleep. All of these wonderful people made a difference to my dad during his last days, they hugged my mother and ensured that they had done all that they could. I cannot put fully into words the difference all these people made just that each and every person who visited brought something to us with dedication, kindness and professionalism helping my mother, myself and my two sisters through the hardest period of our lives. Our gratitude to them all is immense.
"The care he has received over the last few weeks of his life"
