"Colposcopy/Gyn One Stop Shop appt"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology/Colposcopy Outpatients

(as a service user),

I attended a clinic appt with a Dr a two  staff nurses.  This was for a trans vaginal ultra sound as I  have been experiencing slight bleeding whilst on HRT.  I was seen on time.

The doctor seemed ill prepared for the consultation.  They were asking me questions about my medication and previous visit to the gynaecologist which I would have expected them to already know.  I asked why they didn't have access to this important information via my CHI number and I was informed it was on another system.  The same applied to my cervical screening results.  The doctor had to ask a nurse to go and access this information as we were mid consult at this point.  This did not inspire  a sense of confidence as surely the doctor shouldn't have to rely on the patient providing dosing information as this may be unreliable considering the circumstances of the appointment? I appreciate that the service is busy and under staffed but there was a sense that little to no pre appointment preparation had been done as I watched him scan through my medical notes.

The examination itself was fine but there was little communication from the doctor so I  focused on the two nursing staff present.  They were lovely, very supportive and caring.  I was incredibly grateful for their presence in the room.  On a side note,  it would have been nice to have been informed that it was a male doctor who was going to be seeing me.  It would not have made a difference to me (apart from being surprised at the outset as I have only ever been seen my female gyn doctors) but I am sure some women would not have been comfortable with that.
