Went for a routine CT scan in the Cancer centre. It was a quiet day in the car park and quite uncharacteristically I got parked no problem.
Went to the CT scanning area and sat awaiting my scan. The area was busy with service users but not with staff. Usually im brought in for a line to be inserted while drinking water for an hour. I was told to drink the water and left for approx 70 minutes before going in to get gowned and get my line in. The lady who saw me was polite, courteous and under obvious pressure- explaining that she was short staffed and hence the delay. She explained there was no help to insert the lines in advance and did mine while in the scanning room. She got this first time and was very gentle. Scan was uneventful and I waiting the obligatory 10 minutes for ventflon to be removed. All in all very professional despite being under obvious pressure of being short staffed.
I wanted to say thank you for the professional care despite being under pressure. It means a lot to have someone get the ventflon in first time.
One point I also wanted to highlight is that on the changing room doors it says to be “reassured that these cubicles are cleaned between patients” which is incorrect. My cubicle had the dirty gown from the previous person in it. The other rooms were not cleaned while I was waiting despite service users going in and out. Don’t know if this is usually the case.
"professional despite being short staffed"
