In late 2025 my husband became suddenly critically unwell. Mr Sheikh and his team at the Institute of Neuro Surgery, Glasgow performed meticulous brain surgery under emergency circumstances and, quite literally, saved his life. We cannot thank Mr Sheikh enough for his awesome work.
After his operation my husband went to ICU/HDU where Dr Hawthorne and the nursing staff gave him 24/7 expert care for his complex needs. They worked hard and concentrated effectively while, at the same time, keeping us informed and included by his bedside. It is such an impressive Unit.
My husband then progressed to Ward 64 where Audrey and her staff – Sarah, Stephanie, Nora, to mention just some, - cared for him, again day and night, with a high standard of skill and competence. They delivered patient-centred care, and ready to go the extra mile – one time to arrange a child-centred and comforting visit for our young grandchild who had been immensely upset by his granddad’s illness and abrupt absence from his life.
All of these professionals are exceptionally knowledgeable, hardworking and caring. Every day, they support and encourage recovery for patients facing daunting challenges, often against the odds. We offer our sincere thanks and hope they continue to receive the support they deserve for the extraordinary work they do.
