In December 2025 after a cerebral bleed my husband was fortunate to get a bed in Ward 56 Acute Stroke Rehab in the Langlands building Glasgow under the care of Dr Shah. This is such a good team and Unit with a therapy gym, a dayroom, and a garden which patients and family can use: also the building has wide corridors (good for practising walking) and lovely small seating areas. These facilities are of such value to enable patients to be encouraged to venture beyond their bedside, progress towards a more normal lifestyle, stimulates them and gives them some choices in their lives.
The therapy in the Ward is top-class. The physio Louise, the OT Sandra and the Speech therapist Lorna worked as frequently as they could with my husband, worked hard to give patient-centred care and delivered their professional skills with such a kindly, encouraging and compassionate fashion that not only did he progress but my husband really looked forward to his allotted time with them.
I am sorry I cannot mention everyone individually who contributed to my husband’s recovery, but they included nurses, healthcare support workers, doctors, catering staff and the Serco domestic team. To all of you, thank you. Please be assured that your work has a profound and positive impact on patients’ lives — it truly makes a world of difference.
