I brought my 4 year old daughter for a DMSA Scan. We arrived at the hospital and headed to the CIU Children department to have her cannula fitted. Staff were great. Numbing cream was applied and she was allowed to play until it was ready to fit the cannula. This took 4 attempts however this was no fault of the nurse who was fabulous and didn't force it and stopped when it didn't work, another member of staff entered to support and eventually they got it but they were patient and reassured my daughter and gave her a toy for her bravery.
The play person was there with iPads etc to distract too. We then headed to Necular Medicine where Straun talked us through the process. What I liked was he talked to my daughter and gave her the opportunity to ask any questions. He was so patient. On return while waiting for her scan the staff in the department were great, they understand it had been a long day for her but did all they could to help her. Gave her colouring sheets, put the TV on and even put the TV on during her scan which she ended up falling asleep in.
For me as a parent I appreciated them being so patient with my daughter and taking the time to explain to her.
Thank you.
