"Always calm and talks him through everything"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Play Service

(as a service user),

My son was diagnosed with a brain tumour 4 1/2 years ago, when he was only 3 1/2.  He had quite a traumatic experience and cannulas have continued to cause distress up until recently.

Denise (Play Therapist Royal Aberdeen Children’s hospital) has been instrumental in supporting my son through two awake scans with the build up to, getting the cannula in and the scan itself. My son is now confident getting an MRI scan and he is able to confidently get a cannula in. He says Denise is always calm and talks him through everything so he is ready.

She will continue to support us as necessary and we are very grateful to her for her support.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on the positive progress your son has made with his scans and cannulas and for expressing your appreciation of the role that Denise one of the senior Play Specialists has had in this fantastic progress. Denise will be thrilled to receive your kind words. Denise is an asset to the hospital and works really hard to help families through challenging procedures.
