Recently, my son-in-law, suffered from a pulmonary embolism which resulted in a cardiac arrest. He had no medical history, has always been fit and healthy.
At half past three in the afternoon, he just all of a sudden collapsed and needed CPR.
We phoned an ambulance who were there within minutes.
During the ambulance ride he arrested again, the paramedics got him back with CPR.
He was then taken to Ayr Hospital, resus where he arrested 3 more times and was resuscitated, intubated, arrested again, resuscitated again. Given blood thinners, So They managed to stabilise him, by that point his chance of survival was at around 5%.
The entire A&E were at his bedside at some point, one nurse (Steph is her name, there were so many staff surrounding him, I've forgotten the names) actually injured her hands during CPR.
Then he was stabilised, then taken to ICU Crosshouse, where they did a fantastic job keeping him alive, and then starting to slowly bring him back to consciousness.
When he was stable enough, he was transferred to Critical Care in Ayr Hospital, then to Station 12.
And then he was discharged. He's since made a full recovery. So, so many healthcare workers were involved in his survival, My son in law had no previous health problems, no significant medical history or any issues.
