(as a service user),

I recently gave birth to my third child in Daisy hill. Throughout my pregnancy I was with the Sapphire team. My main midwife contact was Elaine, who was always fantastic and helpful with any questions I had. I also saw a few different consultants throughout this pregnancy of whom I also cannot fault.

Following on from previous birth trauma with my first child I had been keen to avoid induction at all costs, and was initially delighted that my labour started spontaneously the night before I was due a balloon induction. Having had 2 very quick deliveries in the past I arrived at the hospital when my contractions were 7 minutes apart but unfortunately from there on the contractions stalled. I eventually wound up having to have my waters broken and an oxytocin drip which I was quite disappointed about and I did find this induction of labour to become extremely intense quite quickly in comparison to my previous spontaneous labour, however I had a diagnosis of group B strep so this was necessary to get the baby here safely while I was on IV antibiotics. When things grew in intensity I requested more pain relief and my midwife Aisling was quick to install a cannula and the anaesthetist arrived quickly and I was given a pain button to self administer pain relief, from there on out I found the labour much more manageable.

I found Aisling to be a fantastic caring, thoughtful and professional midwife, my baby wound up being larger than we had expected and I managed to not tear or need any stitches, I do believe this was partly down to her being able to help me stay calm and controlled while pushing and helping me to manage my pain relief promptly when I requested it. I’m really glad I had her with me for my delivery that night and it was nice that she was the midwife who followed me up at home the next week. Over all this was a positive birth experience and I feel like I was well supported throughout.

Some of the girls names I would like to mention  who helped throughout my Labour;
