Recently, my son developed a severe eye infection which caused him to lose his sight in his left eye over a few hours.
Following contact with the ophthalmology team, we were seen promptly by the resident doctor Leo and he gave us personalised and compassionate care. It was an extremely anxious time for my son and Leo was caring and supportive and spent many hours with us a family.
My son required urgent surgery and the whole theatre team were kind, ensuring he felt safe. We were then transferred to Otter ward where we remained for just under a week. The Otter staff were absolutely lovely, nothing was too much trouble. They allowed me to stay with my son, to support him during this difficult time. All the staff greeted us with a warm smile, checked on us regularly and kept us going with plenty of cups of tea.
We also received continuity of care from our ophthalmology Consultant and his team including Tony the clinical fellow who saw us late at night for reassurance. My son still has a long way to go in his treatment and we are unsure whether he will regain all of his sight but we are so thankful for the care we have received from a wonderful group of nurses and doctors.
