I have never been as disappointed and angry with an NHS provider of care as I do with this ward at Gamston Lings Bar. My father was transferred there for rehab after having excellent care for a month prior at the QMC. From the day of his admission I felt some staff have been rude to him and say they cannot speak to his next of kin without a PoA in place. Working in a clinical setting myself I was appalled by their attitude towards my father. To me it seemed they like to group all geriatric men as stupid and condescending when my Father is an intelligent man. Working in a clinical role myself, I would never dream of speaking to a patient’s relatives the way I have been spoken to.
My sister had emailed / taken in a hard copy of dad’s immediate clinical history and the mental health challenges he faces. My father struggles with change and suffers with severe anxiety and depression there was no understanding of this when they were questioning him about the future and my dad found these questions distressing and unnecessary on his first day in a new rehab setting.My father is bed bound and every time they move him they moved the table beside him with his paper, glasses, phone, fan out of reach and felt they get angry when he asks that they move it back to within reach.On a recent visit, a staff member left me shaking due to their attitude towards me asking for pain relief for my father. I felt that I could not return to the ward to visit as their attitude has made me fearful of another such encounter.
Staff attitude
