"The hardest thing anyone has to cope with"

My mam died due to the apparent negligence of the staff not correctly monitoring someone placed on a potent diuretic, causing her potassium to drop that low it caused her to have a cardiac arrest and die. Then they were seemingly covering it up until it all came to light when medical records were accessed. The staff on the ward at the time showed no compassion, and have to be the worst people my family has had to deal with.

The hospital trust has definitely not showed any duty of candour to my family. They also seem to find it acceptable to have nurses shrugging shoulders when asked questions on my mam's care because they can't recall as they didn't even have time to fill in her general medical notes.

The trust has acknowledged approx 25 failings in my mam's care in the one week she was in hospital, for the treatable reason she was in for. Knowing a loved one's death was potentially avoidable is the hardest thing anyone has to cope with. In my opinion these people should not be allowed to be still working. Wonder how many more take the fact that someone dies naturally on face value when actually they possibly didn't. Would recommend anyone to get medical notes of a deceased as in my experience there are some liars out there.
