"Excellent Care at Barts"

About: St Bartholomew's Hospital

(as a relative),

Sadly my cousins husband died at Barts recently.  I really wanted to say something about his care.  He was on a cancer ward I think it was 5G, but under the care of Dr Sasha who had looked after him throughout his prostrate cancer.  I was there when the medical team had a very careful, informative and compassionate discussion with my cousin.  At the time the patient was unconscious and nearing end of life stage.  Its a real skill to have those conversations.  I think the continuity of care for patient and partner was important.

They were familiar with the nursing and domestic staff who came in and out but always were kind, thoughtful and appropriate.  They were offered contact with the palliative care team but this was not necessary due to the excellence of care on the ward.

And the ward itself had a peaceful and positive feel, there were facilities for the relatives a nice room and tea and coffee.

This was a horribly sad experience, someone much loved dying before their time,  But all the staff team made it as good as it could be.  And the patient died a peaceful death.

A quick shout out for the Maggies Centre on the site which has given my cousin and partner a lot of practical and emotional support.  Lovely staff there and a lovely, serene and caring atmosphere.

Thank You.
