"Short stay on AMU"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency Tameside General Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them. They said…

I was a patient in AMU for approximately 24 hours after being admitted from A & E as an emergency from home. Arrived on the ward very late on a Thursday evening in May 2018. I had been on here before as a patient and on both occasions recognised that the staff were efficient in clinical care but perhaps lacked the caring skills needed about anxious mainly elderly people.

The food was definitely not good. My impression was that it may be food not used by other wards and so kept hot for long periods??

I felt very nervous and apprehensive. The drip went into tissues. Staff could not get another line in. At this stage, I was whisked off to ward 46, with 5 minutes notice. Luckily my daughter was with me and helped me in the transfer. Felt they could not get rid of me quickly enough?? Felt like they obviously needed an emergency bed.

This work is ongoing and we can provide a further update regarding this. Please accept our apologies regarding other care issues identified.
