About: Hollies Medical Centre

Daughter called by a doctor who didn’t seem to care about her mental health issues. Feeling worse now than she did before the call, dismissive of anxiety and extreme low mood, but sent a text with a link for Covid anxiety. It’s not acceptable, I’m the one that has to try and pick up the pieces, and can’t leave her alone and it causes me so much stress when she says she doesn’t want to be here anymore, these are quite simply things I can’t help her with. Where do I turn now, the best advice I could give was call the doctors and ask for help ?

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. Firstly I would like to apologise for the delay in responding to your post. I am very sorry to hear about your daughter’s experience, and that you are unsure of where to turn next.

The following services may be able to help you and your daughter. You don’t need a GP referral to access these services. You don’t say how old your daughter is so I have included services for children and for adults:

For children:

Kooth- https://www.kooth.com/ - Online Counselling and Peer Support service for Children and Young People aged 11-18 with online forums and self-help articles available 24/7 and online counselling from 12 noon-10pm weekdays and from 6-10pm at weekends.

Sheffield Children’s Mental Health Helpline - 0808 275 8892- This is a helpline for children, staffed by Sheffield Futures and CAMHS staff, able to give advice and support to young people. Open 9am to 9pm.

Sheffield Futures/Door 43— A young people's charity based in Sheffield providing mentoring and specialist support including peer support, counselling and wellbeing cafes-see also https://www.instagram.com/sheffieldfutures/

Gold Digger Trust- Charity working with young people on wellbeing and self-esteem.

For adults:

https://www.sheffieldmentalhealth.co.uk/ - Comprehensive website of services in Sheffield and resources for helping with emotional wellbeing and mental health.

https://iaptsheffield.shsc.nhs.uk/ - NHS adult service offering a range of free psychological therapies to people who work and/or live in Sheffield. IAPT can offer a range of local therapies that can help with stress, anxiety and depression and people can self-refer via the website.

I hope the services above are able to provide you and your daughter with the support that you need. If you or daughter do not find any of the above suitable your GP is able to refer your daughter to the CAMHS service (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service) if the level of complexity/ risk requires this.

Kind Regards,

Nicolle Smith posted on behalf of Owen Jones - Commissioning Manager - Children’s Mental Health.

Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group.

Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group is responsible for planning and buying (commissioning) many of the healthcare services in Sheffield.
