I recently visited the Day Unit at East Surrey Hospital for a liver biopsy and just wanted to say how impressed I was with my treatment.
I attended on a day when the hospital was at max capacity and normal beds on the Day Unit had been commandeered for in-patients, meaning day patients were spread across other rooms. This must have been a challenge for staff to manage, but there was no sign that it wasn't just another day. All the staff involved in my treatment were calm, unflustered and professional.
The doctors and nurses, treating me were all cheerful and kind, and nothing felt like too much trouble. They were patient fully explaining the procedure to me, making sure I understood and patiently answering any questions (I didn't feel rushed at all). During the biopsy, a lovely nurse held onto my hand and talked to me throughout, which was a great comfort. Afterwards, I had one-to-one nursing (as I was in a room alone) and my nurse was great, making sure I was comfortable and chatting to me. I was given several cups of tea, food and was regularly checked to see that I wasn't in any pain.
From start-to-finish, I felt very well looked after and have to say that this is a shining example of an NHS team working at their very best.
If you're reading this because you're anxious about having this procedure, please don't be - you'll get great care from this department.
