You may not realise it, but a number of universities now use Care Opinion in health professional education.
The stories people have shared are searchable in a wide variety of ways and create a unique resource to support learning across a wide range of topics such as patient experience, patient safety, quality improvement, leadership, compassionate care, communication, and so on.
Last year, medical students at Imperial College School of Medicine used stories from Care Opinion as the basis for narrative analysis of specific ethical/legal issues in health care. For this task, the students wanted to be able to find longer stories, which would be amenable to more detailed analysis.
So, in time for this year's teaching, we have added the ability to filter your search by the word count of a story.
How to search by word count
To use this feature, you'll need to be logged into your subscription on Care Opinion.
Then, go to the search page and open up the "story search options" panel on the left hand side.
Towards the bottom, you'll find the place where you can enter a minimum and/or maximum word count:
You can add this filter to your search, alongside any other filters you may have. After you add the filter (using the + button) your search will look something like this:
Of course, you can then save your search or use it as the basis of a report.
